We are part of "MaxL" – the Max Weber Foundation virtual library
The Max Weber Foundation (MWF) digital library unites the electronic resources of the MWF institutes on a central research platform. These resources typically have collective licences, meaning that one library's holdings are usually also accessible locally in all the other libraries. The platform also allows you to search the contents of some of our licensed databases.
The beta version of the system has been online since summer 2025. Should you encounter any errors or broken links in the title view, please use the "Help with access" link. For any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team.
Our Digital Collections platform: cataloguing and digitising manuscripts and rare prints
The Fondo Rostirolla is undoubtedly one of our library's most important special collections. It comprises over 300 manuscripts and 200 printed musical sources from the 16th to the 20th century, notably of Italian provenance, from the collection of Roman musicologist Giancarlo Rostirolla. In addition to opera, cantatas, songs, sacred music, orchestral and chamber music, the collection also includes works for wind orchestra, popular music and arrangements.
Following the completion of our latest cataloguing project, since August 2025 the entire collection has been comprehensively referenced in the Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM) – International Inventory of Musical Sources – under the library siglum I-Rig.
A selection of digitised works under free licence is also available on our Digital Collections platform https://dlib.dhi-roma.it/. The Fondo Rostirolla marks the beginning of this platform, which we are continuously expanding in scope and functions.
